“It’s Joy.”

In Uncategorized on September 1, 2015 at 21:27

We’re five beer bottles in already, when she asked, “So, how about you—who’s the dominant emotion playing in you right now?” “Hmmm… You mean out of the five emotions in Inside Out—Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust?” I asked. She plastered on a satisfying smile as if knowing already my answer to her question and said, “Well, yeah… So which one is it?” The crease on my forehead soon leveled out. I returned the smile, and without a hint of hesitation I replied, “It’s Joy.” There weren’t any discussion that followed. Instead she just nodded in pure affirmation and satisfaction, looking at me with eyes that seem to articulate, “Great, just what I want to hear.”

Get Drunk ~ Charles Baudelaire

Blind to Bounds

Always be drunk.
That’s it!
The great imperative!
In order not to feel
Time’s horrid fardel
bruise your shoulders,
grinding you into the earth,
Get drunk and stay that way.
On what?
On wine, poetry, virtue, whatever.
But get drunk.
And if you sometimes happen to wake up
on the porches of a palace,
in the green grass of a ditch,
in the dismal loneliness of your own room,
your drunkenness gone or disappearing,
ask the wind,
the wave,
the star,
the bird,
the clock,
ask everything that flees,
everything that groans
or rolls
or sings,
everything that speaks,
ask what time it is;
and the wind,
the wave,
the star,
the bird,
the clock
will answer you:
“Time to get drunk!
Don’t be martyred slaves of Time,
Get drunk!
Stay drunk!
On wine, virtue, poetry, whatever!”
~ Charles Baudelaire.

Sometimes everything sucks. It just does. You’re exhausted. You’re stressed. You’re down on yourself and you’re down on everyone else and nothing you’ve done has made you feel proud or excited or enthusiastic or even anything. Your greatest accomplishment has been emptying out your Hulu queue. Everything you write sucks. Everything you do sucks. You’ve resigned yourself to a life of mediocrity, because, maybe you could be the best at being average. Or the best at sucking the least. New goal: be the best at sucking the least.

Then, you do that thing which you’re never supposed to do, but you do it anyway because, hey, you’re already down here in the pit of your self-loathing, why not make this pit even less hospitable? You feel ashamed about everything sucking. You feel like, wait, shouldn’t I know how to not feel this way? You start feeling guilty, like…

How To Cut Through The Chaos And Listen To Yourself

What we don’t realize about our intuition is that it usually presents itself as a whisper. It’s this tiny voice that exists in the back of your mind, a calm even-keeled voice, powerful, but small in its vocalization. This is why we can’t hear it. This is why we make a disaster out of our lives. It’s impossible to hear an intuitive whisper when our lives are chaos. This is why they say to meditate, because, at the very least, what it does is relax your mind long enough to hear that whisper. Otherwise, we gloss over it.

We pick out the nearest emotion to feel, the nearest reaction, the nearest conclusion. And, when our lives are already in chaotic flux, our minds running rampant, our nearest thoughts are from fear, because they are loud as all hell. Loud, screaming bellows. Big, crazy reactions. Insane, ridiculous conclusions. Our…

I swung my closest door open, placed my hands on the handles of my hips, and stared at the clothes that were spewing out in 15 different directions all over the floor. The hemlines of old bridesmaid dresses were trying to emerge from the very back and the faint outline of one, single, red rain boot was doused in old Forever21 dresses.

This staring contest lasted for an entire block of television commercials and once Keeping up with the Kardashians came back onto E! I flung back onto the couch, feeling faint-like and exhausted.

I’ll do this some other time, tomorrow night – I promise.

Procrastination happens when our goals are bigger than our energy levels, our time and even sometimes, our courage. When we look at something that at first seems so insurmountable, it’s easy just to stuff everything back into our…

Religion Versus Relationship

Religion says do, Jesus says done Religion says slave, Jesus says son. Religion puts you in bondage, Jesus sets you free Religion makes you blind, Jesus makes you see And that’s why religion and Jesus are two different clans Religion is man searching for God Christianity is God searching for man
